承接上一篇提及的托福聽力(TOEFL Listening)必練的考試技巧上下文大意推敲法，這篇會舉出實例來深入講解~

托福(TOEFL)考試的聽力(Listening)技巧非常重要，幾乎是托福(TOEFL)考試每一大題必須要的基本能力!!

因此除了要把聽力(Listening)考試技巧練到滾瓜爛熟，遇到問題時的解決技巧更是必備。

上篇提到同學準備托福(TOEFL)考試永遠不可能背完所有的單字，那這樣遇到生字就整篇Let it go了嗎!?

當然不是!!上下文推敲大意法就是一種即使看不懂某幾個單字也能拿分的托福(TOEFL)解題技巧~

在這邊截取一小段BBC上的一篇文章來說明：

(文章難易度為初級，如果是英文底子還不錯的同學根本不需要用到技巧，同學在練習時可以找更難的喔~)

請不要查字典推敲出以下桃紅色的單字意義：

Why did you sack me?

Never, in a million years would I ever have expected to hear again from the first person I fired.

But there she was, six years later, at the end of the phone. We exchanged pleasantries, and then she got right down to the reason for her call: “I want to know why you fired me.”

Her question took me straight back to 2008 and those first few difficult months when I started editing a newspaper. As part of cutbacks, I had to lay off the No. 2 editor, a man in his 70s who was once my mentor. It also meant that my reporters had to produce more stories and more blogs, with a smaller budget. And when one of them failed to produce what was required, I had to fire her.

sack (v.) 解雇 (= fire) >>>假如看到標題不懂，往下看內文就有答案了。

Never, in a million years would I ever have expected to hear again from the first person I fired.

But there she was, six years later, at the end of the phone. We exchanged pleasantries寒喧；玩笑>>>從字首”pleas”可以判斷這是正面的、歡愉的名詞，就算不知道意思，在電話裡頭的談的正題之外，通常都是輕鬆的問候及說笑, and then she got right down to追根究底 the reason for her call: “I want to know why you fired me.”>>>有沒有看到相呼應的字?標題的答案就是這句啦。

Her question took me straight back to 2008 and those first few difficult months when I started editing a newspaper. As part of cutbacks削減, I had to lay off遣散>>>既然提到fire(開除)，這兩個字眼都是比較負面的相關詞，例如cut是減、off是離去 the No. 2 editor, a man in his 70s who was once my mentor導師>>>這個字沒有前後文可以推敲，代表在本篇文章不是重點(如果是重要的主題，絕對會在文章中反覆提及)，所以即使猜不出個所以然，也不會影響閱讀. It also meant that my reporters had to produce more stories and more blogs, with a smaller budget預算>>>上一句提到由於縮編人員，剩下的員工需要分擔更多的工作，而且一家公司縮編人員的主因就是錢縮水了，所以這個字一定是跟金錢有關. And when one of them failed to produce what was required, I had to fire her.

當然托福考試的難度是這篇文章的100倍(不誇張，托福考試幾乎沒範圍，上考天文&下考地理)!!

而且這個階段是用有文本的方式練習，因此同學在看得到英文文字的情況下，推敲的難度還是比較低的。

如果是用聽的做練習，就要請同學勤練速記的工夫了!!

托福考試難歸難，還是有其友善的一面，就是可以做筆記!!(但是速度要快)

這一點請同學一定要好好把握啊~

把關鍵字(絕對不是記整篇啊，沒有人可以辦到這種事的)速記下來，再用同樣的技巧去猜測，無法百分之百正確，但一定可以猜出大概的意思~

絕對比起一聽到不懂的單字就對內容毫無頭緒來得有用!!

不過，一開始絕對是挫折連連，練習初期時可以一個段落就按暫停，不用剛開始就講求全部立即吸收，這是不可能的，不要異想天開，要循序漸進地訓練喔~

練習托福聽力的方法，可以上YouTube聽有字幕的影片(音檔)，字幕是最後對答案用的，練習時不能邊看邊聽喔!!不然就失去鍛鍊的意義了~

小提醒：影片一定要選有字幕的，不然會沒辦法訂正喔~
